In the past 20 years, Americans have increased their sugar intake from 26 pounds to 135 pounds per person per year.  Before the turn of the century, its said sugar consumption was around 5 pounds person/year.  Annnd guess what.  Cancer and heart disease were pretty much unheard of in the early 1900’s.  While this is obviously not the one substance causing our increase of illness and ailment, it is a major factor in our public health crisis.  Studies have directly and undoubtedly make the connection of sugar and disease, and its something really important to be aware of on a daily basis.  Be mindful of products with ‘added sugar’ and ‘high fructose corn syrup’.  Limit your consumption by substituting white refined sugar with Xyletol (tastes just as sweet and actually has health benefits.)  And share this information with friends and family.
